Borussia Dortmund Partnership

Wynnum Wolves Football Club signs with Borussia Dortmund to become Official Youth Development partner in Australia

In May 2023, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund (BVB) visited Brisbane to announce a new partnership with Wynnum Wolves Football Club (WWFC), one of the oldest clubs in Queensland, Australia. The announcement confirmed Wynnum Wolves FC as BVB´s “Official Youth Development Partner” in Australia.

The two clubs signed an initial two-year football partnership to offer a number of youth development and coaching opportunities, encompassing exchange opportunities between the two clubs including football training camps in Germany for Wynnum Wolves FC players and coaches. Additionally, the two clubs committed to collaborating on implementing a sustainable structure for Wynnum Wolves FC’s fledgling female football program to leverage BVB´s recent experience with their own professional women´s team which began play two seasons ago.In 2022, Wynnum Wolves FC’s Brisbane home ground of Carmichael Park was devasted by the Queensland flood disaster. All levels of government – Federal, State and Council – are now supporting the re-build of Carmichael Park.  Having joined this effort is a valued sponsor of both BVB and Wynnum Wolves FC – WILO. A sustainability partner of both clubs, WILO is one of the world’s leading premium providers of pumps and pump systems for the building services, water management and industrial sectors. WILO is headquartered in Dortmund and its Brisbane office is just a stone’s throw from Wynnum Wolves FC’s home ground in the suburb of Murrarie.

Suresh Letchmanan, Managing Director BVB Asia Pacific said: “We are very excited about this partnership with a club who shares the same commitment to developing talented youth players as BVB does. We are looking forward to working with Wynnum to bring to life our key objectives in youth development, and also women´s football development.”

Wynnum Wolves FC President, Rabieh Krayem, is understandably excited about the opportunities this new partnership will present to aspirational young players, as well as coaches, at Wynnum Wolves FC. “Dortmund is renowned in Europe for its professional and progressive approach to youth development – building from the grassroots up,” he said. “This is something we have been very passionate about at our club as we have worked to grow the level of our youth program. I truly believe the synergies between our two clubs extend way beyond the yellow and black uniforms our teams both wear.”.Wilo’s Internal Sales and Operations Manager, Shaun Dallas, was at the nexus of connecting the two clubs. As a passionate football fan and local business leader he is excited about the positive outcomes that can be achieved by bringing the three entities together.

“Wilo has been long-term sustainability partner of BVB and will be looking at ways it can support Wynnum Wolves FC in its sustainable rebuild of Carmichael Park after the floods,” he said.  “Building strong connections with the community is important to our company, and what better way to do that than by getting behind a community football club that has an ethos built around grassroots growth and connection.”
