Wynnum Scott McDonald

Wynnum Wolves Football Club has been excited to welcome former international, A-League and Socceroos striker, Scott McDonald, to the club as a guest coach during the 2021 season.

A seasoned striker whose professional playing career has spanned two decades and two continents – including successful stints in both the English Premier League and the Scottish top-flight – McDonald is now dipping his toe into the realm of coaching by pursuing this A Licence ang giving back to the game at junior level.

Scott linked with Wolves in July to conduct a successful junior school holiday camp at the club and has since been engaged as a guest coach to work with the club’s front-third players.

Always known for his strong self-belief and positive energy as a player, McDonald is bringing that same energy and enthusiasm to the training pitch at Carmichael Park, working with nominated players from the club’s Under 12s SAP group through to members of Wynnum Wolves’ Senior squad. And Wynnum’s young players are lapping up the experience.

“This is not only a fantastic learning experience for our young players, but also for our young coaches.”   Claudio Canosa

Wolves Technical Director, Claudio Canosa, said the addition of Scott as a guest coach was part of the club’s philosophy to give great “value-added” experiences to players across the club.

“This is not only a fantastic learning experience for our young players, but also for our young coaches,” said Canosa, who has welcomed other club coaches to observe the sessions.

“Scott has a lot of energy and personality as a coach. He’s played at the highest level. He’s known as a successful goalscorer. The great thing is he’s not only coaching, but he’s also able to demonstrate the skills he’s teaching.”

Canosa said it was exciting to be able to present to players another voice and perspective – especially from someone of Scott’s experience, stature, and currency in the game.

“It’s something we want to continue to do at our club to give our young players and coaches as many quality learning experiences as we can,” Canosa said.

“We are very lucky to have two former Socceroos in Scott and First Team coach Frank Farina, working with our players at the moment. It’s a rare opportunity, and it is exciting to be able to bring this level of coaching to Wolves,” he said.

*KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THE OPENING OF REGISTRATIONS FOR SCOTT’S UPCOMING SCHOOL HOLIDAY CAMP AT WYNNUM WOLVES FC ON SEPTEMBER 20th and 21st.
