ACADEMY Teams

If it’s high-level competitive football you are seeking, Wynnum Wolves FC has you covered at both Senior and Junior level.

ACADEMY BOYS

Wynnum Wolves FC has earned elevation to the Football Queensland Academy 1 League in 2026 which has in turn expanded the opportunity for young players at Wolves to compete in top level junior football in Brisbane.

Having methodically improved the standard of its Academy Boys space over the past five years across the areas of programming, coaching and player development strategies – the 2026 season promotion has helped to deliver deserved rewards to many current Academy players who have grown with us throughout this journey, as well as community players who have come through the club’s Pathways development program.

Wynnum Wolves FC Football Director, Richard Greer, said the challenge ahead is to not only maintain standards, but elevate the club’s dedicated push towards continual improvement and growth. Maximum commitment will be required from all players and coaching staff in 2026 to step up to the levels required to not only compete, but cement the club’s tenure as a respected Leauge 1 club.
Now ranked in the Top 10 of Academy clubs in Queensland, Wynnum Wolves FC will field both Academy 1 and Academy 2 Junior Boys teams from Under 9s to Under 13s in 2026. From Under 14s upwards our top Youth teams will compete in the Academy 1 League for the very first time in 2026.

In the older age groups – 14s upwards – selective trials are held each season to fill vacancies and strengthen age groups and certain positions across the squads. In the younger age groups the club predominately promotes from within – from the depth of our community programs – but looks to invite players in for trials where it is necessary to fill positions and strengthen squads.
Wynnum’s Academy Junior boys’ teams were extremely competitive in Leage 2 across all age groups in 2025. NB: No League tables are kept for the juniors. The club’s Academy Youth boys’ teams finished mid-table or above across the season with the Wolves’ Academy Under 13s finishing second in the Premiership and earning a place in the Grand Final.

In 2026 many players who have come through the club’s Pathways Development programs have been given a chance to step up to either Academy 1 or Academy 2 teams for the new season.

Football Queensland’s Academy League system offers the highest level of competitive football for junior and youth players in the State.

ACADEMY GIRLS

Wynnum Wolves FC was granted a limited Academy Girls’ Licence by Football Queensland for the first time in 2024 with allowance to enter Under 11 and Under 13 Girls teams into the Academy 2 Girls’ League. In addition to this the club offered an Academy level program for its Under 15 and Under 17 girls with those two teams playing in the highest level of community football on offer. Both these teams had stellar seasons, winning their respective MJL premierships and grand finals.

Football Queensland’s Academy League system offers the highest level of competitive football for young female footballers in the State. Throughout each season, club Academy teams are also invited to play in various Football Queensland tournaments and events and players are identified for higher level camps and training opportunities leading into State team selections each season in certain age groups.

Earlier this year football Queensland announced all Academy Girls programs would progress to single age-group teams in the 2025 season. In line with this Wynnum Wolves is planning to vastly expand the footprint of its Academy Girls program in 2025.

As with the boys, club players are given priority when it comes to selection of these teams with further trials held to fill vacancies and strengthen age groups and certain positions across the squads. Internal development training groups have also been conducted in the younger age groups throughout 2024 to prepare players for the step-up to Academy level football next season.

PATHWAYS BOYS

Wynnum Wolves FC has imbedded a Pathways Development program into its junior development structure to provide a graded stepping stone for junior players between community and Academy football at our club.

Pathways is the entry level program to the club for junior players looking to join our junior Academy and gives them an introduction to the higher-level commitment required to gain an Academy position at Wolves.

Entry to the Pathways program has become extremely competitive over recent seasons. Generally, players are selected into Pathways teams based on retention plus Talent Identification carried out by Wolves’ Technical coaches throughout each season across the club’s MiniRoos space, camps and carnivals. Trials are also held at the end of each season to fill remaining places and to strengthen certain age groups and positions.

Our Pathways teams – from Under 8s to Under 13s – train twice a week under a dedicated coach who follows the same coaching philosophies as their corresponding Academy teams. Players can also be pulled up from the Pathways program to support an Academy team when opportunities arise throughout the season.

Wolves also looks at other tournaments and carnivals to provide additional competition and matches for Pathways teams and players.

Our Pathways teams play in the highest level of MiniRoos competition on offer from 8s to 12s. The Pathways 13s participate in Football Queensland trials at the beginning of each season with the aim of securing a position in either the Under 13 MJL or Division 1 competitions.
