CENTENARY BOOK LAUNCH
Parliament House HOSTS MEMORABLE EVENT
The spectacular rooftop River Deck of Queensland Parliament House, overlooking Southbank and the Brisbane River, was the very special venue chosen for a memorable Wynnum Wolves FC Centenary Year celebration in May 2021.
The occasion was the launch of the club’s Centenary Book Project – 100 Years of Football at Wynnum – which will be released by Fairplay Publishing in October 2021.
The book has been written by Wynnum Wolves FC committee member and journalist, Vicky Krayem, to chronicle the colourful history of the Wynnum club, with the assistance of many proud club members who have shared treasured memories of their connection with the club.
More than 100 special guests, including past and present players, coaches and club administrators, Life Members, sponsors and dignitaries, attended the cocktail function, which was hosted by popular football broadcaster, journalist and ‘Voice of Football’, Simon Hill, who made the trip from Sydney to MC the event.
A highlight of the evening was Hill’s entertaining interview of club life members and icons, Wayne Gracey and Eddie Wilkins, who shared some entertaining stories from their playing days at the club.
An encore performance was also delivered by 2021 NPL Under 13 captain, Saharhat Kawlpawong, who stole the show when he spoke with such eloquence about what the club means to him – signalling that the future of Wynnum Wolves Football Club is in very good hands as we enter the next 100 years of our proud history.
The Parliament House Centenary Event was a successful and memorable evening of celebrations, recollections and rekindling of friendships among the tight-knit Wynnum Wolves FC community – and the building of a new bridge of respect and recognition between the past and present custodians of the 100-year club.

WOLVES CENTENARY JERSEY
A SPECIAL SHIRT FOR A SPECIAL YEAR
A special centenary jersey was commissioned by Wynnum Wolves Football Club in 2020 to help the club celebrate our milestone 100th season in 2021.
‘Project Centenary Jersey’ was the first in a number of iconic celebratory plans laid down by the club’s committee to mark such an historic year.
Inspiration for the jersey design was drawn from old photographs and recollections of past club jerseys, including a description of Wynnum’s original jersey detailed in the Chronicles of Australian Soccer, which describes a playing strip that featured black and white vertical stripes, black shorts and black socks with white turnovers.
Black and white were the predominate colours of the Wynnum kit over the first 40 years of the club’s existence before a merger with the local Lota club in the early 1960s introduced the now iconic yellow into the club’s colours.
Wynnum Wolves’ club apparel providers, Stanno, committed to produce the club’s centenary jersey, with the hugely important task of jersey design handed to young Wynnum player and budding graphic designer, Keegan Dennis (pictured), who had just finished his Year 12 studies and was heading towards a TAFE Diploma of Graphic Design.
Keegan relished the opportunity put his prodigious design talents to the test and came up with a fresh and striking design that has won much praise from the club community throughout the centenary year.
The final centenary jersey design is a predominately white featuring thin black, vertical pinstripes down the length of the body, which pays homage to historical descriptions. A modern twist was added by the inclusion of striking yellow features around the collar and sleeves as a nod to the iconic yellow which Wynnum teams have predominately worn over the past 60 years.
Every Wynnum Wolves FC player – from Mini-Roos to Masters – has stepped out in the striking centenary jersey across the 2021 season. All players will keep their jerseys at season’s end as a special keepsake of their involvement in the centenary year.
